Story
Thanks for visiting our page. Marcello Cadeddu was a brilliant researcher in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Sheffield and the University of Leeds. He had returned home to Sardinia just before Christmas to help on the family farm and finish writing his PhD thesis. Aged just 32 he suffered a heart attack, caused by a congenital heart defect, and went into a coma from which he did not recover.
In the village where he lived and grew up they said "An exceptional boy, of great intelligence and humility, in love with life and his family, active in the academic world but always ready to lend a hand to the family business and wherever it was needed. He had many friends here" Particularly attentive to health, as a boy he had played in the band of the village. For the town citizens he was first of all a son and an exemplar worker. "An honest and discreet person who often helped the community through his charity work".
His unexpected death hit us all at University hard as just a few days previously we had been wishing him a merry Christmas and good luck for the writing of his thesis. He was a great friend and colleague to many of us and so we are raising money for the British Heart Foundation's research in his memory and I'd be so grateful for your support. On 23rd March approximately 30 students and staff from the University of Sheffield and the University of Leeds will be walking a 30 km route called 9 Edges in the Peak District.
The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help us hit our target. Thanks!
